Health insurance is more than just a product; it’s a safety net that can protect your financial assets against the risk of a medical catastrophe. Whether you’re affected by a major illness or unexpected injury, health insurance can help you avoid paying the high cost of medical expenses out of pocket. It can also give you the peace of mind knowing your health situation will not cause a financial burden on you and your family.

Medicare-Related Plans

If you qualify for Medicare, Carrera Brokerage offers a number of insurance products that enhance your benefits. We sell Medicare supplement and Medicare Advantage plans from major insurance carriers. Which plan you choose will depend on your condition and desired services.

A Medicare supplement or Medigap policy can help pay your share (coinsurance, copayments, or deductibles) of the costs of Medicare-covered services. This type of private insurance can also cover certain benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover. However, a Medigap policy doesn’t cover your share of the costs under other types of health coverage, including Medicare Advantage Plans, stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (also known as Part D), employer/union group health coverage, Medicaid, Veterans Administration benefits, or TRICARE.

Medicare Advantage (also known as Part C), which is also a type of private insurance, provides Medicare Part A, Part B, and Part D coverage. However, Medicare Advantage can charge different amounts for certain services and may offer extra coverage and in most cases prescription drug with the plan. If you want drug coverage, you have to get it through your plan in most cases.

Here are a few things to keep in mind: If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you do not need and cannot use a Medigap policy—unless you’re disenrolling from your Medicare Advantage Plan to go back to Original Medicare. Also, if you have a Medigap policy and you’re switching from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan, you don’t need and can’t use the Medigap policy to cover deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, or premiums under the Medicare Advantage Plan.

If all of this seems a bit confusing, don’t worry. Our experienced, knowledgeable staff can help you evaluate both options and determine which one best fits your medical and financial situation.

We Can Find the Best Insurance for Your Needs

At Carrera Brokerage, we offer a variety of health insurance plans for employers and individuals who are self employed, independent contractors or individuals needing coverage. Our carriers feature plans that cover hospital, prescription and surgical benefits, as well as mental health, home health and chiropractic care. With all the insurance products that we have available, we can easily find a plan that matches your needs and preferences.

We can help you choose a plan with predictable out-of-pocket costs, so you know what your liability will be in the event a medical issue arises. We can also show you how buying the least expensive plan may actually be the most expensive option, once you factor in out-of-pocket expenses. Our goal is to inform you of the available options, so you can choose the best plan for your requirements and budget.

Control the Controllable

You can’t control whether you’re impacted by a serious illness, injury or accident. However, you can take preventive steps to protect your health. You can also ensure you have adequate health insurance coverage before you need it. If you wait until a medical event happens, it may be more costly.

So take the time and make the effort now to:

  • Get routine check-ups. Making periodic doctor visits can help save your life. Many diseases can be healed if caught on time.
  • Take care of yourself. Eat a proper diet, exercise and get plenty of rest for optimum health. Do it not just for yourself, but also for your loved ones.
  • Get familiar with your benefits. Carefully review your health insurance benefits, so you understand how to take advantage of them before you need to use them.
